Shrek Volunteer Tech Crew Inquiry Form

Logo for "Shrek The Musical" by DreamWorks Theatricals.

Hi everyone!

Thank you all so much for your interest in being part of the crew for our 2025 Teen Summer Musical, Shrek

This production is directed by Mayme Paul, assistant directed by Roxanne Livia, and stage managed by Lauren Alexander. Our technical director is Mark Andrew Reyes and our lighting designer is Ian Kelley.

This form is meant to gather contact information and take note of your special interests and abilities backstage and your availability. At this time, we cannot accept any backstage crew with tech rehearsal or performance conflicts. If you are unavailable for any of our tech rehearsals, July 16th - July 24th, or performance dates, July 25th - 27th and July 30th - August 3rd, we recommend that you wait and sign up for the next production in the Fall.

We are looking for a crew of student techies working various positions as assistant stage managers, operating light boards, running QLab projections and sound cues, assisting our sound board operator and rigging operator, managing props and moving set pieces, and assisting actors backstage with quick changes or other special effects. Additionally, we are looking for two students follow-spot operators, preferably with previous experience running follow spot. These two students must have additional approval from their parents (if they're under 18) to work in the catwalk. All students must be at least 13 but not yet 20 by our closing performance, August 3rd, 2025, to be within a similar age range to our actors.

PLEASE NOTE: beginning with this production, all student techies who are ages 18 and up MUST BE FINGERPRINTED. This is a free, easy, painless (and inkless) process of going to our fingerprinting center in Moorpark with a special form we will send you. If you are a legal adult and backstage in any capacity, you must be fingerprinted.

This form is meant to help us get to know you and what you're interested in. We're so grateful that we've already had a massive influx of interest for tech crew on this production, so please know that we cannot pick everyone (much to the stage manager's chagrin). We will primarily be focusing on older students with prior backstage training and experience who are looking to move on with technical theatre in their college or professional careers. There will always be more backstage positions for younger and beginner technical theatre students in our upcoming 2025-2026 Family Theatre Season and we'd love to have you join us then!

The due date to fill out this form will be Friday, June 6th, 2025 at 5pm.

Thank you!

Rehearsal Schedule: READ THIS BEFORE COMPLETING THE FORM

Tech Crew will be required at the designer run-through and some students may be required at additional rehearsals prior to our tech week on July 16th (costume assistants at the costume fitting, sound assistants at the sit and sing). Additionally, there will be a tech crew meeting, most likely on Saturday, July 12th to go over roles, expectations, and to turn in tech crew contracts.

An additional Google form will also be sent out to our tech crew to volunteer to help with set construction, set painting, load in, and load out. This is not required but really helps us out. All tech students will be required to assist in strike immediately following the final performance on August 3rd.

Our full preliminary rehearsal schedule is available in full on the YAE Auditions page.

Starting on Wednesday, July 16th, crew is required to be at all rehearsals and performances and we ask that if you are interested in this production, you rearrange any possible conflicts during that time.
