"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. CAST Auditions will last two hours and 45 minutes and will consist of singing and cold readings from the script.
- Please also choose one of the Fairy Tale Character Lines to read during auditions (link below).
- Callbacks will include dancing.
- Please prepare 1 minute of a song and bring sheet music in correct key.
No Recorded Music please.
Character DescriptionsPreliminary Rehearsal SchedulesFairy Tale Character Lines- Callbacks: Monday, June 2 from 5:00-10:00pm
- Parent Meeting: Wednesday, June 4 from 6:00-7:00pm
- Rehearsals: Mondays through Fridays from 5:30-9:30pm and Saturdays from 9:00am -1:00pm
- Performances: July 25 - August 3, 2025 (participants must be available for all performances)
Auditions are by appointment only.
Participants must be at least 13 and not yet 20 years old by the closing performance on August 3, 2025
Auditions & Most Rehearsals held in the Theatre on the Hill at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts;
403 W. Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks. Performance venue TBA.
There is a $210 participation fee; financial assistance available

Preliminary Orchestra Rehearsal ScheduleEach audition will last approx. 10 minutes. Orchestra auditions open to participants 19 and under.
Please bring sheetmusic of your choice to play. You may be asked to sight read.
Orchestra Auditions will be held:
- Saturday, May 31, 2025 in 10 minute time slots between 9:00am - 12:30pm
- Sunday, June 1, 2025 in 10 minute time slots between 12noon - 5:00pm
Please choose the time of day preferred (ie. Morning, Afternoon, or Evening) and you will receive an email confirmation with your audition time.
Will will audition the following instruments:
- Bass (Acoustic Bass , Electric Bass , Electric 5-String)
- Cello
- Drums (Basket Shaker, Bell Tree, Drum Kit, Keltic Arena Drums, Large Shaker, Mark Tree, Piccolo Snare Drum, Small Shaker, Tambourine, Wood/Temple Blocks). Please bring your own drumsticks.
- Guitar 1 (Archtop Guitar, Elec. Stratocaster, Electric Guitar, Nylon Acoustic, Steel Guitar, Steel Strg Acoustic, Ukulele)
- Guitar 2 (Electric Guitar, Mandolin, Nylon Acoustic, Steel Strg Acoustic, 12-String Acoustic)
- Horn
- Keyboard
